This attack, on/ Aug. 20,1944, was the first daylight raid on the/ Japanese home islands by the B-29's, whose wide-/ranging attacks on Japanese industrial areas have/ inflicted heavy damage. Coke ovens, open-hearth/ furnaces and shipping facilities were the targets/ here. In one attack from a secret base near the/ Equator, B029's flew a round-trip distance of 3,600/ miles (5,760km. ) to blast enemy oil plants./ APPROVED BY APPROPRIATE U. S. AUTHORITY
